If tiling remains the most common bathroom covering, many other materials can be considered as bathroom floors.

1. Adopt a PVC floor for all bathroom styles

Quick to install and inexpensive, flexible PVC flooring is making a strong comeback as bathroom flooring. Modern, ultra-resistant, and insulating, it is much more attractive than before. Thanks to it, all decorative styles become possible.

For your bathroom, choose a flexible non-slip floor and check that its composition is compatible with damp rooms. Also, note that different surface treatments make it possible to reinforce their resistance to soiling.

Easy to install, PVC bathroom flooring is flexible and comes in the form of a ready-to-install roll. To guarantee better resistance in wet rooms, it is recommended to glue it, with a rise in plinths for better hygiene.

It is easily maintained with a mop and a little detergent. And contrary to popular belief, if it is properly installed, it will last for a long time.

Another tip: linoleum, which is a natural material, is not suitable for the bathroom. The wood flour it contains makes it sensitive to humidity.

2. Opt for tiles for a classic bathroom

Without a doubt, it is the most durable and easy to maintain bathroom floor. Variety of colors, sizes, and materials, ease of maintenance: the advantages of tiling are numerous. Between classic tiling and colorful mosaic, you have the choice.

Glazed pressed stoneware tiles, made of clay covered with a layer of enamel, are a very trendy option. Available in many colors and formats, it offers many decoration possibilities. But beware, it can be slippery under wet feet!

This is not the case with mosaic, which, thanks to its small size tiles, allows you to imagine endless creations and decorative compositions.

You can finally opt for terracotta tiles. Very colorful, they will bring real added value to your bathroom. If possible, choose them enameled, so that they are less porous and more resistant. Be aware, however, that their price is generally higher than traditional tiles and they are less resistant to time.

The additional advice: to guarantee a good seal, the installation of the tiling must be accompanied by a SPEC (water protection system under tiling), installed by a professional.

3. Lino, PVC, and vinyl, the option of flexible floors in the bathroom

Thanks to numerous technical innovations, linoleum, vinyl, and PVC are used in the bathroom. The main advantage of a flexible coating is its comfort since it constitutes an excellent insulator.

The very wide variety of patterns also makes it possible to choose a design suited to each style. A flexible coating is therefore a great way to renovate an old bathroom without incurring a big expense and without starting a big renovation.

This type of coating is particularly suitable for flooring in small bathrooms. Be careful, however, not to choose entry-level materials: in order to have good resistance and to avoid slipping, linoleum, vinyl or PVC must be adapted to the requirements of the bathroom and be treated accordingly.
